About Me

I’ve been involved in engineering since I graduated high school, starting work at the SMI Joist plant in Hope, Arkansas in their engineering dept. in 1994. By the end of that first summer, I’d learned to design reinforcing for open web steel joists. As I pursued my engineering degree at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, I came back home at every break from classes to work there. After graduation, I went to work for SMI Joist (CMC Joist, by that time) at their Fallon, Nevada plant where I stayed for almost 10 years, serving as Chief Design Engineer, Quality Assurance Manager, and Engineering Manager. The company centralized their engineering operations back to their Jacksonville, AR Technical Center in 2009 and I moved back to Arkansas to work as a design engineer. In 2010, CMC shut down their joist division, and I got on board with Pinnacle Structures, a local Pre-Engineered Metal Building manufacturer in Cabot, AR. After a layoff there later that year, I went to work for Robbins Engineering Consultants, where I worked for over 14 years as a project engineer. Due to the owner of the firm retiring and shutting down the business, here I am at the present, looking to help you through my own firm!

Engineering Skills

  • Familiar with design of open-web steel joists from previous long career in that field.
Familiar with Pre-Engineered Metal Building design and able to work with PEMB providers as needed.
  • Extensive experience with steel connection design using advanced analyses or complex joints (both delegated design and in-house).
  • Extensive experience with steel stair design, particularly with nontypical stair configurations (both delegated design and in-house).
  • Performed analysis & design of a variety of commercial and industrial steel-framed structures using various braced frame and moment frame configurations, in low and high-seismic locations and hurricane zones.
  • Performed analysis and design of several wood-framed structures, both light-framed and heavy mass timber construction (e.g., glulams and CLT). Mass timber design included design of high-capacity timber framing connections, CLT shearwall connections, and CLT stairs and guardrails.

Software Proficiency

  • 15 years experience with RAM Structural System, RAM Elements, RAM Connection, WoodWorks Sizer, WoodWorks Shearwalls, Enercalc, and Autodesk Revit.
  • I have 8 years of experience using Idea Statica Connection, a finite element analysis program specifically for advanced connection design.
  • Long history of contribution to engineering software development through participating in alpha/beta testing of software and verifying and reporting bugs in production releases of engineering software.

Education
My undergraduate degree is a bachelor of science in engineering with a concentration in Welding Engineering and Materials Joining from LeTourneau University, in Longview, Texas. My soon-to-be-completed graduate degree (Dec 2024) is a master of science in civil engineering with a concentration in structural engineering.

Language Proficiency
Although a native English speaker, también puedo hablar español si es necesario para tu proyecto.
